Saturday, the Sooners will play their first game in the newly renovated stadium, that is now a full bowl. After a disappointing week one against Houston, here is what you can look forward to during week two.
- Starting RG Alex Dalton is out with a knee injury and could miss some significant time. Expect Erick Wren to get quite a few snaps tomorrow.
- After Baker Mayfield was publicly criticized by Bob Stoops, I would venture to say he will have a huge day (depending on how much he plays in the second half).
- Michiah Quick took a lot of snaps with the ones at the beginning of the week, but TFB Parrish Cobb had a better overall week in practice and got most of the first team reps towards the end of the week.
- Guessing OU will try to establish the run game, and get it figured out while they still can before the Buckeyes roll into town next Saturday. I would imagine roughly 35 carries on the ground total between all of the RBs.
Importance Of This Game
Really, this should be a tune up game. The biggest key will be the CBs, and who is opposite of Jordan Thomas. I would not expect to see much, if any, of Dakota Austin. Another key is really seeing which WR will step up and be Baker’s go to. I would love to see Mykel Jones get some snaps, as teammates have raved about his “Sterling Shepard-ness.” Jarvis Baxter has got to hang onto the ball or he can’t be on the field, and Jeffrey Mead has to find a way to get open. I still feel like Mark Andrews wasn’t targeted nearly enough, even with an impressive stat line, (3 catches 94 yards 2 TDs) 3 catches is not enough. Ogbo got to Greg Ward, but he has gotta keep his cool and tone it down just a bit. OU can’t afford any of those extra curricular activities against Ohio State next week. The Sooners should get ahead early and stay on top for the whole game, as this is an angry team, not happy with last weeks outcome.
