The Oklahoma Men’s Basketball team will travel overseas to Australia and New Zealand later on this summer. They plan on playing four international games to prepare for the 2017-18 season. The squad will begin their trip on August 3rd and return to Norman on the 14th. First they will face off against the New Zealand Select before taking off to Australia to play the Sutherland Sharks, the Sydney Kings and the Cairns Taipans.
In an interview, Lon Kruger says that the trip is perfect for this certain team. “The opportunity for our young team to travel abroad is monumental in developing our group for the upcoming season while allowing us to grow together by traveling to another part of the world. From the sightseeing, the comradery and the talented competition we’ll face, this promises to be an excellent and memorable 12 days for our players, staff and entire program.”
This year looks to be promising for this young Sooner team. They bring back Big-12 All-Newcomer team Kameron McGusty who averaged 10.9 points per game. They also bring back key pieces with starting experience in Khadeem Lattin, Rashard Odomes, and Christian James. Eleven out of fifteen players in 2016-17 were freshmen or sophomores and all are back in 2017-18. Considering all of that, Oklahoma brings in a top-25 recruiting class, loaded with five-star point guard Trae Young, who picked the Sooners over Kansas. It should be a fun year for OU basketball.
